Rihanna Spotted with Dad Ronald Fenty at Barbados' Crop over Carnival Amid Lawsuit
Rihanna was recently spotted having fun with her father at the Crop Over Festival in Barbados, months after she sued him for allegedly exploiting her name to market his entertainment company.
The singer, born Robyn Rihanna Fenty, had the time of her life at the annual Crop Over carnival in her natal Barbados, where she was caught hanging out with her father, Ronald Fenty, aboard one of the festival’s floats.
MAKING PEACE
In a pic from the event, Ronald can be seen kissing his daughter on the cheek while taking a selfie of the two. Rihanna seemed in good spirits, hugging her dad at the waist and smiling sweetly at his gesture.
The “Umbrella” performer has made it a tradition to attend the annual carnival, and although she usually shows a lot of skin, donning a bejeweled bra and matching bottoms with huge feathered accessories, this time she opted for a more demure outfit.
Without losing her fashionista touch, Rihanna rocked a bright pink mini dress covered in fluffy feathers that stuck out in every direction.
She added embellished pink heels, rhinestone sunglasses, and silver accessories, and rocked her hair in playful Bantu knots. Mr. Fenty, on the other hand, kept his look simple wearing a teal t-shirt and pants.
DAUGHTER SUES FATHER
Rihanna and her father’s encounter is interesting considering that they’re currently embroiled in a legal fight over the use of their last name, Fenty, for-profit purposes.
The name has become widely associated with Rihanna and her makeup, lingerie, and sportswear brand since she first released her Fenty Beauty line in 2017.
However, she claims in court documents filed earlier this year that her father and one of his associates have been using her name to promote their business, Fenty Entertainment, LLC, a company dedicated to “developing original television programs, motion pictures, live concerts, and record producing as well as talent.”
Rihanna is suing her dad for the misuse of the name and for allegedly misleading possible business partners by making them believe he’s operating on her behalf, even though he has “never been authorized to use her name, intellectual property or publicity rights,” as the suit claims.
MR. FENTY IGNORED THE WARNINGS
The lawsuit also states that Mr. Fenty tried to book a South America tour for Rihanna, as well as performances in Los Angeles and Las Vegas, without her authorization.
Although Rihanna trademarked the “Fenty” name in 2017, her father also filed a request to trademark the name which he planned to use for a chain of boutique hotels. However, the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office denied the request, according to Rolling Stone.
The suit also claims that Rihanna sent several cease and desist letters to her father, but he ignored her. She’s now allegedly seeking an injunction on her father’s use of the “Fenty” name.
According to Insider, Rihanna and Mr. Fenty are scheduled to appear in court in June 2020. However, now that they seem to be back on good terms, we’ll have to wait and see how they will deal with the legal matter.
