Melissa Etheridge's Son Beckett Cypher Dies at 21 Due to Opioid Addiction
On Wednesday, May 13, 2020, Melissa Etheridge’s social media account announced that her son had had sadly passed away. The singer followed up by revealing that her son had died from opioid addiction.
Etheridge, 58, and ex-partner Julie Cypher’s son, Beckett Cypher, passed away at the age of 21. The singer-songwriter revealed on her Twitter account that the boy had died as a result of opioid addiction.
The first tweet from the musician’s account read: “We’re sad to inform you that Melissa’s son Beckett passed away and there will not be a Concerts From Home show today.” In a secondary tweet, Etheridge released a personal statement.

BECKETT DIED FROM OPIOID ADDICTION
She revealed in the post that she had "joined hundreds of thousands of families who have lost loved ones to opioid addiction.” The singer explained how Beckett had struggled to “overcome his addiction” before succumbing on Wednesday.

Etheridge continued her message writing: “He will be missed by those who loved him, his family and friends.” The Grammy Award winner confessed how broken-hearted she was.

She also thanked those who’d reached out to offer their condolences. On Twitter, Etheridge received condolences from people like Rosanna Arquette and Rosie O’Donnell.

In her post, the musician admitted that she and her family were struggling with figuring out what else they could’ve done to save Beckett. However, she noted that “in the end we know he is out of the pain now.”

She concluded her post by promising her fans that she would be singing again soon as “It has always healed me.” Etheridge has been performing “Concerts From Home” daily on Facebook Live amid the novel coronavirus pandemic.

Julie conceived Beckett with the sperm from Rock and Roll Hall of Famer David Crosby via artificial insemination. The couple also shares daughter, Bailey Jean Cypher, 23, who was born in 1997 via the same procedure as her brother.
ETHERIDGE’S OTHER KIDS
Etheridge and Julie’s relationship ended in 2000, but the singer also has 13-year-old twins, son Miller Steven and daughter Johnnie Rose. The twins are from her relationship with her ex-wife Tammy Lynn Michaels.
In 2014, the singer remarried to television producer Linda Wallem.
