When Patrick Mahomes was a freshman at Whitehouse High School in 2011, the Kansas City Chiefs quarterback developed a strong bond with Brittany Matthews.
Eventually, after he gave her a rose and a Valentine's Day card the following year, their friendship began to grow. The athletes supported each other throughout their time at high school.

Mahomes was a star athlete in both football and baseball, while Matthews was an outstanding soccer player. The two were each other's first choice for dances at the gym.
Their relationship endured despite the fact they attended separate colleges as teenagers in Texas, but mostly because they chose to remain in each other's support.
In Kansas City, Missouri, they share a home and two dogs. On the same day Mahomes received his championship ring at Arrowhead Stadium in September 2020, he proposed to Matthews.
In the same month, Mahomes and Matthews announced that they were expecting a girl, their first child together. On February 20, their daughter, Sterling Skye, was born.

During an interview in September, when asked whether he wanted a daughter or a son, Mahomes replied he's just super excited to be able to have a healthy child and someone to love and care about.
As for what 2020 has taught him personally, Mahomes, who spent his rookie season as the backup to Alex Smith, clarified how he envisions it being just about growing up and becoming responsible.
In a December interview, the Kansas City Chiefs player said the best things that happened to him this past year are the announcement of their engagement and the news of their pregnancies.
