When American actress Busy Philipps gave birth to a baby girl, fans were excited to know what she would name the little girl.

When explaining why they chose the name, Philipps said that she and Silverstein had a list of names before Cricket was born. She continued:

"Then she came out, and I looked at her, and she just couldn't be one of those names."

They went home with their newborn to celebrate the Fourth of July, but after a week, they still couldn't decide on a name. "I got a call from Cedars, and they said, 'You have to come back and name your baby," Philipps narrated.

Thanks to the many shows and films he has watched, her husband was quick to think on his feet to come up with a name.

Cricket Pearl Silverstein's Name

Being a celebrity means having every move under public scrutiny, including baby names. Philipps and Silverstein made sure they put a lot of thought into naming their kids.

Since the "Cougar Town" actress grew up with a unique nickname, Busy being short for Elizabeth, she also wanted her children to have special monikers. She and her husband wanted to name their kids whatever they wanted to call the children.

They knew that the names they gave Cricket and Pearl would distinguish them. "I like the names," the actress said. "I think they're cute." However, Philipps felt the need to defend Cricket's name days after her birth.

Choosing the Name

Silverstein and the couple's older daughter, Birdie, had been pushing for the name Cricket, which eventually became the newborn's birth name.

According to Romper, Philipps shared, "I had thought her name was going to be Ginger, but then she was born, and that seemed utterly ridiculous for her. I maintain she could have been a Dottie. But I'm still glad she's our Cricket. She's clearly Cricket."

Cricket Sister - Birdie Leigh Silverstein

Cricket has an older sister named Birdie Leigh, born on August 13, 2008. According to Philipps, her eldest daughter was named after Lady Bird Johnson. Her husband thought Johnson was a great woman with an amazing name and decided to name their child after her. She said:

"When [Birdie] came out, I said, 'I think we gotta go with Birdie. I think that's [the] name."

In 2020, Philipps revealed that her eldest had come out as gay at ten years old. During an episode of her podcast, "Busy Philipps Is Doing Her Best," the doting mom shared her Birdie's journey in finding herself.

"For those of you who are my friends listening at home, this is the first you're hearing that Birdie is gay and out," Busy said. "So Birdie, my out kid, prefers they/them."

Busy Philipps once caught her daughter listening to Harry Styles' "Fine Line" album while all alone in the dark. Immediately, she knew that something wasn't right. According to Birdie, she felt that she was alive but not living.

The young girl was still waiting and longing for that part of her life to happen. To comfort her daughter, Philipps tells Birdie that she should be happy on her terms instead of following society's standards.

Philipps has been supportive of her daughter's pursuits. In 2021, she celebrated Birdie's new role in an Amazon series, "With Love." She was overjoyed and proud to have a child following her footsteps.
