Frances Tomelty is one of the many female celebrities whose marriages were reminiscent of a movie centered on love, friendship, and infidelity.

She was once married to Sting, but their relationship was marred after a close acquaintance met the rock star. Neither Sting nor his current wife is proud of the way things ended.

While most people know about the multihyphenate's current marriage to Trudie, only some are familiar with his previous marriage to Frances Tomelty.

Sting's First Wife Frances Tomelty Is a Famous Irish Actress

Born on October 6, 1948, in Belfast, Northern Ireland, Frances is a talented actress who has made her mark in the entertainment industry with memorable roles in the films "The Amazing Mrs. Pritchard," "Bullshot Crummond," and "Vanity Fair."

Frances' life changed when she tied the knot with Sting in 1976. However, their once-peaceful union quickly took a tumultuous turn in 1982, when Frances testified in court on Sting's behalf in a lawsuit he had filed against Virgin Music.

Shortly after that, the couple called it quits in 1984. Despite the end of the pair's marriage, Sting still holds a special place in his heart for her. Sting said Frances "transformed my life and was a catalyst in my becoming something completely different."

Sting Started an Affair with Trudie Styler While He Was Still Married to Frances Tomelty

Sting's life took an unforeseeable turn after crossing paths with Trudie Styler in the late 1970s. What adds to his fascinating love story: Trudie happened to be Frances' friend at the time.

Trudie first saw Sting walking down the street with green hair in the summer of 1977 and became fascinated by him. She went on to meet Frances in a 1980s production of "Macbeth," and they became close friends. At the time, Sting and Frances were married.

In his memoir "Broken Music," Sting admitted that he fell in love with Trudie when they met. Although he took note of her beauty, he also described her as a "damaged angel" because of the scar on her left cheek.

While Frances and Sting lived in a basement flat at Leinster Square in Bayswater, Trudie resided two doors down. Sting was a poverty-stricken musician at the time who had just formed a band called The Police.

Things became complicated between Sting and the two close friends as he and Trudie had an affair shortly after they met. She became pregnant in 1983 and ultimately stopped acting.

Trudie revealed that her complex relationship with Frances and Sting was far from ideal, and she admitted that it was not something she was not proud of. She said:

"Neither of us are proud of a situation that happened - it just happened. We loved each other and we lived together and then we got married and we had more kids. And that's our life story."

Sting officially divorced Frances only after Trudie gave birth to their daughter Bridgette Michael Sumner in 1984. The rockstar eventually married his second wife in a star-studded wedding in Wiltshire, England, in 1992.

Frances never remarried and never expanded her family after her divorce from Sting.

Frances Tomelty and Sting Welcomed Two Children during Their Marriage, and They're Following in Their Parents' Footsteps

Frances' past marriage with Sting brought forth two children — a son named Joseph "Joe" Sumner and a daughter named Fuchsia Sumner.

Interestingly, Joe bears an uncanny resemblance to Sting, while Fuchsia—who appears to be a daddy's girl—looks like her mother's doppelganger. Both of the former pair's children have entered the world of show business.

Joe has followed in his father's footsteps and has become an accomplished musician whose talent is on display in various movie soundtracks such as "The Sorcerer's Apprentice" and "Miss Meadows," as well as the TV series "Survivors."

Fuchsia has inherited her mother's talent and pursued a career in acting. She has appeared in the hit movies "Saving Mr. Banks" and "Billionaire Boys Club." She is also a brilliant director and producer.

Frances did not remarry or have children following her divorce from Sting. However, Sting's remarriage proves that finding love again is possible after separation.

Like Sting, actor Tom Hanks and singer Shania Twain also have stories of second chances at love. Tom is happily married to his wife, Rita Wilson, while Shania enjoys a blissful life with her husband, Frédéric Thiébaud.
