Perfetti is known for portraying the queer teacher, Jacob, in the influential television series, "Abbott Elementary." In addition, he has been cast as a gay character in other projects such as the television movies "Looking" and the play "Son of the Prophet."

Despite his rise to prominence, Perfetti has done exceptionally well to keep his dating life a mystery. Nevertheless, the debate about his sexuality continues to rage, and some fans are already convinced he is gay.

Discussions around Whether Chris Perfetti Is Gay

Perfetti's sexuality has been on the agenda several times, and fans on social media have asked questions about it. In October 2022, @HopeRehak said they were "Googling whether Chris Perfetti is gay to better understand if my crush on him is like a Niles Crane thing or what."

Others felt confident he is gay. For example, @Mvelase tweeted, "Even Chris Perfetti, the irritatingly over-woke white gay, I knew I knew [him] from something but couldn't place it. Had to look up his IMDB and when I saw he was in 'Looking: The Movie.' I remembered he was Ritchie's irritating, drunk post-Patrick rebound boyfriend."

Perfetti keeps his romantic life hidden from the public, choosing not to post about it on his social media pages. Although relatively active on Instagram, his posts are mainly dedicated to his professional life. Furthermore, during a sit down with Interview magazine, the actor refused to discuss his dating life.

Chris Perfetti Has Played Gay Characters Several Times

While speaking about his character, Jacob, whom he plays in "Abbott Elementary," alongside Tyler James Williams, Lisa Ann Walter, and Sheryl Lee Ralph, Perfetti expressed delight that queer teachers would feel represented by watching his role in the sitcom. He also credits Quinta Brunson for not writing a big reveal episode, which helps make being queer normal.

Brunson, who also served as an actress and producer on the show, also commented about the undramatic nature of revealing Jacob's sexuality. She said, "There are so many queer people in my life, and they never had to come out to me. I wanted the audience to feel that way."

She added that Peretti didn't know he would play a gay character on the show beforehand. She commended him for jumping on board immediately, without hesitation, further showing his comfort in playing the character.

Additionally, in "Sons of the Prophet," he played Charles. The actor felt that the role was very close to him. However, while explaining his similarity to Charles, Perfetti quickly pointed out that he didn't want to give anyone the wrong idea, mentioning their similarities, none of which pointed to him being gay like Charles.

In 2016, he was part of the cast of the television movie, "Looking," which premiered on HBO on July 23 and features Murray Bartlett. The film follows a gay man named Patrick, whose search for closure and resolution in his relationships with Kevin and Ritchie (played by Perfetti) sees him return to San Francisco.

The following year, he appeared in "Law & Order: Special Victims Unit," featuring Christopher Meloni, Mariska Hargitay, and Ice-T.

His career is primarily one-episode appearances in television series except for a few where he made more telling contributions. Perhaps his most significant was the 14 episodes he scored on the comedy-drama, "Bonding," between 2018 and 2021.
