In April 2019, Sofia Elizabeth Raymond sat on a bench at the Westminster School Chapel, waiting to recite her speech as two of her schoolmates said their pieces. When her turn finally came, she approached the podium, greeted her audience, and began.

Sofia joined Westminster School on September 9, 2015, and recalled feeling "truly terrified" as a new chapter lay ahead. Admittedly, the youngster was "not a fan of change." Her father, Bradley Raymond, and her aunt had previously attended the boarding school.

They often told Sofia of their wonderful memories during their younger days at the school, and despite her fears, she was excited to create her own. She joked that she had watched every episode of "Zoey 101" before leaving and thought she was ready.

Although her anxiety persisted, Sofia understood her journey was her own. Soon after her parents dropped her off, she unpacked and attended her orientation activities, and the rest is history.

Sofia Elizabeth Raymond & the Value of Helping without Hesitating

Sofia's parents took care to instill valuable lessons in their children. Her mom, Soledad O'Brien, once spoke about one of those lessons, sharing that she taught Sofia and her siblings to always "jump" to lend a helping hand.

Soledad noted that it's often easier to wait to see what other people are doing before deciding if they should help, but her kids fully grasped the value of being non-hesitant "jumper-inners." Despite its difficulties, Soledad also enjoyed being a working mom.

She found it essential to have hobbies outside of being a parent, especially when her kids were old enough to lead individual lives away from home. She got into horseback riding, and Sofia followed suit. Soledad shared a photo of the 20-something-year-old in action in October 2022.
