Sophia Loren’s Daughter-in-Law Shares Family Photos with ‘Gorgeous’ Actress on Her 89th Birthday

"Rizzoli & Isles" star Sasha Alexander uploaded a stunning carousel of family photos in honor of her mother-in-law, Sophia Loren's birthday on Wednesday.

The screen icon is bent over in the opening slide as she laughs in an opulent bedroom. A few dresses are laid out on the gilded four-poster bed that matches the glamor of the formfitting gown she is wearing.

"Happy Birthday to the woman who reminds us how to live, laugh, eat pasta & love our family," Sasha wrote. Instagram commenters appreciated the splendor of the room and the star's timeless beauty.

"Can we just take a moment to appreciate how SUMPTUOUS the room is in that first photo?" one wrote. "I mean the drapes, tapestries, 4 poster bed, the pictures on the walls, those velvet gowns on the bed … I mean… I can't look away."

"Gorgeous! Happy Birthday! I love the peak of her bedroom! Beautiful family. God bless!" another agreed. The second and third slides feature the grandma with her grandkids, while the gallery ends with a snap of the family assembling around a plate of pastries.

Alexander also paid tribute to the Italian star in her Stories. She added a photo of her kids, Lucia and Leonardo, kissing their granny on both cheeks.

In another slide captioned, "Happy Birthday to this wonderful nonna," Sophia is seen holding a baby. "I live for my family," she has said. "I have the most beautiful grandchildren that I've ever seen in my life."

"I'm not particularly fond of getting older," she admitted in 2019, "but I can still fake being 15 years younger," the Oscar winner said in a 2019 interview. She added:

"I like to live my life, I like to have my children, I like to get old, I like to look younger. Why not? Is that a sin? No!"

Born in the Clinica Regina Margherita on September 20, 1934, in Rome, Italy, Loren became famous in the 1950s. She made history by becoming the first person to win an Academy Award for a non-English-speaking role in the 1960 film "Two Women."

With Italian filmmaker Carlo Ponti, whom she wed in 1966, she started a family with the birth of Carlo Ponti, Jr. in 1968 and Edoardo Ponti in 1973.

Edoardo and Sasha Alexander met as students at the University of Southern California. The pair reconnected a few years later when Edoardo ran into the "NCIS" actress in a restaurant.

He introduced her to his mother six months into their relationship. Though the younger actress was intimidated, the icon broke the ice by giving her a hug and a kiss. Sophia Loren was recently spotted at the Venice Film Festival with Edoardo.
