Along with her music, Tammy Wynette's children are her lasting legacy. The country superstar, who died before she hit her 60s, had four daughters from two marriages.

Tammy Wynette moved her three elder kids to Nashville with little to no prospects other than a dream to become a singer. She would later be known as The First Lady of Country Music.

The "Stand By Your Man" singer worked hard to improve her children's circumstances, three of whom grew up in a house without running water. While little is known about her eldest daughter, the others have had sporadic turns in the spotlight.

Tammy Wynette Became a Mother at 18

The country singer married a month before her high school graduation in 1959 to construction worker Euple Byrd. He struggled to maintain steady employment. The pair quickly had three daughters: Gwendolyn Lee Byrd on April 15, 1961; Jacqueline Faye Byrd on August 2, 1962, who goes by Jackie; and Tina Denise Byrd in 1963.

Tina was born three months premature, weighing less than two pounds. With a 50/50 chance of survival, the infant was dubbed a "miracle baby" by hospital staff. She then overcame spinal meningitis before turning four months old.

After the birth of Gwendolyn, the family moved into a log cabin on Tammy's grandfather's farm, and it had no indoor plumping. Tammy had to boil nappies on an open fire in water she collected from the spring. She insulated the walls with cardboard boxes.

Georgette made her stage debut at three.

Communication broke down between Tammy and Euple, and the singer moved to Nashville with their three kids. After their divorce, she married her "idol," George Jones, with whom she had one child, Tamala Georgette Jones, on October 5, 1970.

Tammy Wynette's Second Husband Was A 'Father' to Her Older Kids

Published under Jackie Daley, the second eldest co-wrote a tell-all book about Tammy Wynette in 2000, ''Tammy Wynette: A Daughter Recalls Her Mother's Tragic Life and Death.'' She wrote kind words about her stepdad:

"Jones wasn't merely like a father to me and my sisters. He was our father.''

This sentiment is also reflected in the 1975 record the then-eight-year-old Tina made with their mother and stepdad, "George & Tammy & Tina." In the liner notes, the track "The Telephone Call" is attributed to "Tina & Daddy."

Growing up with her parents on the road, Georgette made her stage debut at three and recorded her first song, ''Daddy Come Home,'' a duet with George Jones, when she was ten. The summer before college, she was her mother's backup singer.

The singer took a 17-year hiatus from the industry, during which time she raised teenage boys and was a registered nurse. Another duet with her dad, "You and Me and Time," in 2010 marked her return to music. As of 2019, she has released four full-length albums.

She made a cameo as a backup singer in "George & Tammy," the limited series starring Jessica Chastain and Michael Shannon as her parents.

"George & Tammy" was based on Georgette's 2010 biography, "The Three of Us: Growing Up With Tammy and George." While she does not consider herself an actress, she had a part in "Sordid Lives: The Series" with Olivia Newton-John and Rue McClanahan.
