Millionaire Offered Me a Million Dollars to Have a Night With My Wife – Story of the Day
Tom and Linda were savoring their vacation when a wealthy stranger approached, seeking their company for the evening. Unbeknownst to Tom, Linda recognized him as her first love, and she didn't anticipate the lengths he would go to drive a wedge in her marriage.
Linda and Tom, a humble couple from Washington State, found themselves dining in an upscale Miami hotel restaurant, a treat made possible by a surprise lottery win. They casually observed the wealthy patrons while joking about their own modest lifestyle.
One patron in particular seemed to stand out. He had the most sleek-looking suit and a gold watch that sparkled even without sunlight, and somehow, he caught them staring. His eyes landed on Linda, who blinked for a second.

Her scalp itched for some reason, and it only got worse when he stood, approaching their table.
"Good evening!" greeted the man. "I couldn't help but notice you two having fun. May I join you? I'm here alone," he said. "Oh, and I'm Peter."
Linda's smile vanished as soon as she heard his name and saw his face up close. Her jaw went slack but she composed herself quickly.
Tom raised his eyebrows but nodded. "Sure, why not? I'm Tom, and this is my wife, Linda. Please, sit with us," he said, grinning awkwardly.
They chit-chatted for a while until Tom excused himself for a second. Once her husband was gone, Linda's façade dropped. "I never thought I'd see you again," she said, looking at Peter.

"Life is full of surprises. I didn't expect to see you here either. Nice place, isn't it?" he replied, sipping on some coffee.
"I don't think it's a good idea for us to be together. Please leave," she continued firmly.
Peter smirked. "Leave? Just like you left me almost 20 years ago?" he inquired.
"That's not true. You don't understand," Linda sighed.
Peter leaned in. "Or maybe you sold our love for money," he whispered, one corner of his mouth lifting sardonically.
"Love isn't something you buy or sell," she responded in a low but much more menacing tone.

Peter's sarcastic laugh broke their tense exchange. "We'll see who's right. I'll prove it to you," he asserted confidently.
Tom returned but hesitated when he saw Peter standing up. "Leaving so soon?" he asked, looking back and forth between the new friend and his wife.
"Yes, I must get back to my room," Peter replied curtly, buttoning his suit jacket.
Linda exhaled when Peter was out of sight. "I don't feel well, honey. Maybe I should rest," she said, standing.
"Do you want me to come with you?" Tom offered, frowning.
"No, stay and enjoy your beer. I'll just go to our room and sleep. Don't worry about me," Linda insisted.

In the solitude of the hotel room, Linda's thoughts drifted back to when she was 19, to her last moments with Peter before his deployment.
"I'll come back to you. I promise," Peter had assured her at the bus station, but Linda didn't say anything and silently cried because they couldn't be sure.
He sent love letters that she read repeatedly while working at a flower shop. One day, Tom walked in, introduced himself, and said he wanted two bouquets for his mother.
"It's for her birthday. She's worth every penny," he explained as Linda worked. She finished and handed them over, only for Tom to give her one back. "No, that one's for you."

He left, showing her the warmest smile ever. But Linda had a boyfriend and sighed, throwing the flowers away. Unfortunately, that didn't stop Tom from continuing to pursue her.
Tom's unwavering efforts to win Linda's affection were hard to ignore, especially when he brought her a small blue umbrella and told her funny stories. Despite his kindness, Linda remained distant, her heart still bound to Peter.
But the phone at the flower shop rang one day. It was Peter's mother, Evelin, and she was sobbing desperately. "Darling, I'm sorry to tell you this," she said, her words hard to hear. "I got just a letter. He's been declared MIA."
"No," Linda breathed, her eyes closing tightly.

Linda grieved for several days until her mother, Amelia, told her to pick herself up and go to work. "You should think about your future. What if he never comes back?" she asked.
"How dare you say that to me when I'm in this state?" she yelled, storming out to the house and going to work.
At the flower shop, Linda's sorrow was evident in every flower arrangement she made. When Tom unexpectedly arrived, her emotions reached a breaking point.
"You...again? Why do you always come here? Get out! I don't want to see you! Get out!" Linda shouted, unable to contain her distress.

Tom lifted his hands and gently replied, "I... I know about Peter. I came to support you. I hope he's alive. I truly do."
His empathy softened Linda's anger, and she apologized for her outburst. Tom's patience and compassion made her open up about her memories with Peter.
She shared a cherished memory of a picnic with him, and as she finished the story, Tom expressed his respect for Peter, "Thank you for telling me about him. He sounds like a great guy."
Linda nodded, "He is. Was. No, he is."
Tom smiled, but their serene moment was interrupted abruptly. The bell above the door chimed loudly as Linda's neighbor burst in, her face flushed and eyes wide.

"Linda!" she called out breathlessly. "You need to hurry to the hospital! Your mother… was rushed away in an ambulance!"
Linda froze briefly before Tom offered to drive her to the hospital. Once there, the doctor revealed that her mother suffered a heart attack.
"She needs urgent surgery in the next few days. The operation is a bit pricey. The nurses don't have any insurance information. We need to have that before we can proceed," he asked.
Linda inquired about the full costs at the hospital administration department and balked at discovering it was a whopping $50k. "My God... We've never had that kind of money," she sighed, dragging her feet back to her mother's room.

She sat holding her mother's hand until Tom returned with some food and suggested taking her home.
"Linda, you need to rest. Tomorrow is another day, and we'll work this out together," he coaxed. She told him about the cost of the surgery, and he whistled, shaking his head.
During the ride home, Linda sullenly looked at the interior of his car. "Where did you get this?" she asked. Tom explained it was a gift from his father, prompting Linda to purse her lips.
"You get such gifts while others are forced to give their lives in the war," she whispered, shaking her head. "It's disgusting."

Upon reaching Linda's house, Tom opened his button shirt and revealed a large scar on his chest. "I can't fight," he explained. "I had a serious heart surgery as a child. Any strain or severe stress could be fatal for me."
"Please forgive me," Linda said, her shoulders sagging. Her voice was full of remorse. "You're right. I'm just struggling and taking it out on everyone. Thank you for everything today. You've helped me more than you know. Good night."
"Good night," Tom nodded with his signature warm grin.
In the following days, Linda focused on working extra hard to raise money for the surgery. She also contacted family and friends but only collected a small portion of the needed amount.

On her third visit to the hospital, Linda braced for a difficult conversation about finances, wanting to get on a payment plan so her mother could get the help she needed immediately.
However, the attendant at the admin department told her everything was settled. "The operation is paid for. I think it's already been scheduled. I hope it turns out well," he said.
"Who paid?" Linda asked, her jaw slightly slack.
He reached for a stack of papers and revealed Tom had paid for everything. Linda felt the tears coming as she walked to the surgery floor and saw him talking to her mother's doctor.

"Thank you so much," she said, wrapping her arms around Tom's shoulders. Then, they waited and watched as Amelia was taken into surgery.
After a few minutes, Tom suggested going out and getting food, but when they didn't walk to the parking lot, Linda realized what had happened.
"You sold your car?" she asked, shocked.
Tom nodded. "You needed the money more than I needed a car."
Linda stepped back, digesting the information as more tears surfaced, but she shook them off. "Let's mark this as our first official date."

Linda woke up. Her mouth felt like cotton, and she looked around. She wasn't outside the hospital about to go on a date with Tom. She was in her hotel room in Miami, but her husband was not on their bed.
Instead, she saw a note sitting on his pillow.
"Dear Linda, I am very sorry that this happened. Farewell."
"What?" she shouted, lifting her body too quickly from the bed and swaying a little. Tom's things were gone from their room, too. "He left me? No! That's impossible."
She rushed to the hotel reception and inquired about a man leaving with a suitcase, but the receptionist offered no clarity. She turned, scratching her head and staring around the lobby, when the sight of Peter sitting cross-legged on one of the leather chairs caught her eye.

"What have you done!?" Linda stomped to him, demanding an explanation.
Peter shrugged, smirking. "I simply offered him $1 million," he stated. "I asked if that would be enough so I can spend one night with you and for him to disappear forever from your life."
"You've ruined my life!"
He coldly retorted, "I just bought his love. Just like he once bought yours. Now you understand how I felt when I returned from war, only to find out from your mother that you had married Tom."
"You know nothing!" Linda wailed. "You don't know about my mother's surgery while you were away! How I spent nights waiting for your letters! And you certainly don't know that I was told you died in the war!"

She kept telling him about her struggles and her pain and how she had rejected Tom for a while until he sold his car to pay for Amelia's surgery. She finished, breathing heavily.
Peter's eyes were fiery, but they settled. "You're right. I didn't know all that," Peter said, sighing before reaching for his phone. "Bring him."
Moments later, at the back exit of the hotel, a disoriented Tom, blindfolded and with tied hands, was pushed out of an SUV.
"What's happening?" Linda demanded, reaching to untie her husband.
"I actually offered him a million a few hours ago. But he refused," Peter confessed, putting his hands in his pockets. "So, I had to force him out. Therefore, I have to admit that you were right. Money can't buy love. I'm sorry, Linda. I left you heartbroken once. Can't break your heart again. Have a good life, you two."

Linda wanted to scream at Peter for his audacity to try and take Tom away from her. But looking at him tear up and walk away, she knew Peter was already crushed by the revelation of her and Tom's true love.
Tom and Linda watched as Peter walked away with his goons. Once they were gone, their arms wrapped naturally around each other. Nothing could break their love.
