It’s never too late to learn from past mistakes, and owning to them is part of the process. YG seems to be aware of that, which is why he took to Twitter on December 31 to show he’s getting educated on some delicate issues.

The 29-year-old California rapper, whose real name is Keenon Daequan Ray Jackson, showed remorse for his past views on sexuality, writing:

“It’s been brought to my attention that my old views on life was ignorant. I apologize to the LGBTQ kommunity [sic] for ever komin [sic] across like I was anything but respectful and accepting. Live. Love. Ya Life. Gang!”

Although YG didn’t specify which views he was referring to, or if he has expressed them before, his willingness to accept he was wrong was embraced by fans, who cheered on his humble attitude.

“Great way to start a year by acknowledging wrongs as you are also indirectly teaching all these millions following you,” one user replied. “Don’t know you but proud of you. Don’t stop exposing all you learn too and help make the world a safer place for everyone.”

And another added:

“YG, I applaud you're admitting you were ignorant and apologizing. You may influence others to examine their old beliefs, and together we can make the world a better place. ‘Beloved, let us love one another.’”

Some people pointed out that the rapper’s words might be an effort on his side to appease his ex-girlfriend, Kehlani, who’s an out and proud bisexual woman.

The pair started dating last September, just a few months after both welcomed babies with other people.

Kehlani welcomed daughter Adeya Nomi with guitarist Javie Young-White in March, while YG welcomed his second child, daughter Vibe Jackson with Catelyn Sparks in July.

Then, in November, YG made headlines when he was caught kissing another woman outside of a nightclub in Los Angeles. His team released a statement explaining he was drunk and “got carried away.”

Kehlani later addressed the scandal on her song “You Know Wassup,” and she let fans know that she was doing okay despite the situation.

She later confirmed the split from YG in December.
