Katie Holmes Shares Rare Photo of Suri Cruise on Her 14th Birthday

The otherwise private Katie Holmes posted a rare tribute to her daughter Suri, as she celebrated her 14th birthday over the weekend, crown and all.

The "Dawson's Creek" alum paid a double tribute to her daughter on Saturday, as the proud mom took to social media with birthday wishes to her "sweetheart" for the year to come.

KATIE'S TRIBUTES TO HER ONE AND ONLY

Alongside what appears to be a handmade birthday banner made from mostly naturally found items, the 41-year-old actress wrote:

"Happy Birthday Sweetheart!!!!!!! ? I am so blessed to be your mom. May this year be incredible!"

A few hours later, Katie posted a rare picture of Suri, which showed off the teen's crown matching the birthday banner she simply captioned, "Birthday vibes."

Sitting with her back to the camera, Suri's right hand lightly touching one of the flowers drew attention to the beautiful naturally made crown of pink and white roses.

WHY KATIE KEEPS SURI OUT OF THE SPOTLIGHT

Katie had been vigilant about maintaining her daughter's privacy. During an interview with InStyle, the actress said that they got "followed a lot when she was little," and she ended up taking Suri outside at "like 6 in the morning" when no one could see them.

But as Suri grew up, Katie told the publication that her "biggest goal" with the 14-year-old had always been to make sure she grows into her individuality.

KATIE IS FOCUSED ON SURI'S DEVELOPMENT

With the "girlie stage" done and dusted, Katie said that Suri is starting to explore her passion and interests, and elaborated:

“She’ll pick an activity and work her butt off until she’s really good at it. She’s very focused and a hard worker.”

Suri, whom Katie Holmes shares with her ex-husband Tom Cruise, had not been seen together in public since 2013. Tom and Katie welcomed their daughter a year before they tied the knot in 2005, and filed for divorce six years later.

Although Katie cherishes every step of Suri's journey as she grows older, it is bittersweet. Knowing that it is a positive and necessary for Suri to grow more independent as she gets older, Katie still finds it "heartbreaking."
