Nicky Trebek wants to help those struggling with pancreatic cancer along with their families. She is endorsing an event for them, hoping to honor her father in the process.

Trebek is raising money and awareness for pancreatic cancer, the disease that took her father's life. While on "CBS This Morning," she announced that she created a team for the PurpleStride walk spearheaded by the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network (PanCAN) and said:

"I'm doing this to honor my dad, to raise awareness for other families and other people struggling with the disease."

The Los Angeles walk, which is scheduled for May 1, will be virtual due to the Covid-19 pandemic. In 2019, her late dad was able to attend a PurpleStride event. At the time, so many people attended the event to support him.

The host went on stage with other survivors, something that he wouldn't normally do. His proud daughter admits that while her dad was a celebrity, he was actually a humble and shy man.

Now, in honor of her dad, she's launched a couple of fundraisers and will be participating in this year's event. She has already raised over $5000.

Trebek passed away at 80 on November 8, 2020. Although she and the rest of the family were hopeful that he would overcome the disease, he succumbed to the illness. The "Jeopardy!" host previously announced his condition on the show.

In his statement, he spoke about always being open with his fans, especially with the longstanding relationship they had through the hit show. He then revealed that he was diagnosed with stage 4 pancreatic cancer, an illness that over 50,000 people in the United States have every year.

Nicky is Alex's daughter from his marriage to Elaine Trebek Kares from 1974 to 1981. Although the pair did not have biological children together, the game show host adopted Nicky before marrying his second wife, Jean Currivan Trebek, in 1990.

In 1990, he welcomed his first child with Jean, son Matthew. Three years later, they had a daughter named Emily. Now that he is gone, his children are hard at work to continue to honor him and his legacy in their own little ways.
