Steven Craig Lived in a Commune – Facts about Sally Field's Ex-husband
Legendary Hollywood actress Sally Field married Steven Craig in 1968 and divorced in 1975. After their separation, the former couple lived utterly different lives.
Field and Craig were high school sweethearts and married at a young age. They welcomed two children in their seven years of matrimony. Both children have gone on to significant careers in the film industry.
Despite growing up without his father and his marriage ending in divorce, Craig remained active in his children's lives, even with his humble life. He even helped his eldest son find his way after encountering problems in his youth.

Steven Craig Was Abandoned by His Father at an Early Age
Craig was born in Fargo, North Dakota, in 1945, a year and a half before Sally Field. He was abandoned by his father when he was still a few months old, and they did speak again until some time well into Craig's adulthood.
After one of their sons had been born, there was an attempt by Craig to reconcile with his father. Craig traveled to North Dakota to meet up with him but came back from the meeting less convinced of his father, eventually changing his last name from Bloomfield to Craig.
Craig had high hopes of becoming a writer and is said to have written a lot of prose but never finished any of it. His different views of the world, which weren't favorable about Hollywood, may have made it harder to succeed. Still, he would read some of the never finished work to his sons when they were young.

Steven Craig and Sally Field Had Been Dating since High School
Craig and Field had a quiet wedding in Las Vegas in September 1968 before they went away for their honeymoon in Jamaica. Craig was 23 years old when they married, and Field was 21. Despite marrying young, they had been together for a long time, even described as childhood sweethearts.
The couple had their first child almost two years later when their son Peter was born on November 10, 1969. It took them another two and a half years to add a fourth member to their family. They had their second son, Elijah, sometimes referred to as Eli, on May 25, 1972.
The high school sweethearts' marriage lasted seven years before they called it quits in 1975. The couple separated in 1973, and it took two years to finalize their divorce. Field was 29 then, and her stature as an actress was increasing rapidly. Her next relationship was with legendary Hollywood actor Burt Reynolds.

Their eldest child, Peter, has gone on to have a successful career in the film industry as a screenwriter and novelist. He has worked on major films like Tom Cruise's "Top Gun: Maverick," "Bad Boys For Life," starring Martin Lawrence, and the first two "Hunger Games" movies starring Jennifer Lawrence.
Their second, Eli, is also in the film industry and followed his mother's footsteps by becoming an actor. However, his most significant work has probably been behind the camera. He gained considerable attention after writing and directing the fan-favorite horror comedy, "Tucker & Dale vs. Evil."

Steven’s Life after Divorce
Although he has a famous ex-wife and celebrity children, very little is known about Craig's life, especially after his divorce from Field. However, Peter has spoken about him, giving little information about what he has been up to since the separation.
Craig's life is said to have changed drastically, and he became a hippie biker. Peter had to spend life between his mother's comfortable house in Brentwood and visiting his father, who had moved into a commune. Much of Peter and his little brother's teenage years were spent living with his father while his mother worked.

Still, the boys seemed to enjoy their time at the commune. One thing for sure is that Craig remained close to his children with Field. At one point, Peter dropped out of high school, and Craig was there to help him get back on track with some authoritarian parenting, which he was not getting in the comfort of his mother's house.
Craig got Peter a construction job in Oregon. The grateful son recalled those days, saying, "He made me get up every single day, got me coffee, made me get a really brutal physical job." There is no information on whether he had any more children or if he remarried.
