Britney Spears' Husband Sam Asghari Posts Statement after Alleged Slapping Incident in Vegas
A recent incident involving Britney Spears and San Antonio Spurs rookie Victor Wembanyama has taken social media by storm. Reports allege Spears was assaulted by one of Wembanyama's security guards, and her husband has now responded.
In early July 2023, reports surfaced alleging that Britney Spears was physically assaulted by Victor Wembanyama's security guard, Damian Smith, the Director of Team Security for the San Antonio Spurs.
The details surrounding the incident are slightly contrary, but the "Toxic" singer recently provided her side of the story on Instagram. According to her account, she recognized Wembanyama at her hotel lobby as she headed out for dinner.

Accompanied by her husband, Sam Asghari, and two of their friends, they went to a restaurant at another hotel when Spears spotted Wembanyama once more. The songstress approached the young basketball star to congratulate him on his success.
Spears noted that the area was loud as a crowd had gathered, so she tapped him on his shoulder to get his attention and ask for a picture. Without looking back, Wembanyama's security guard, Smith, allegedly "backhanded her," knocking her glasses to the ground.
Spears also staggered to the floor but quickly composed herself. Smith later apologized to Spears inside the restaurant, and she accepted it; however, she hoped a public apology from Smith and his team would also be issued.

Speaking to the press the following day, Wembanyama said Spears "grabbed him from behind," it wasn't a light tap on the shoulder. He added that when Smith pushed her away, he kept walking and didn't look back.
Sources also claim that the hotel footage of the incident showed Smith moving Spears' hand away, which then struck her face, not Smith's hand, but hers. Spears reportedly filed a police report, and while the case has been treated as a criminal investigation, no charges have been filed as of this writing.

Asghari, who has been married to Spears since June 2022, has addressed the alleged assault against his wife. Although he condemned violence without justification, Asghari admitted that his reaction to his wife's assault was "subdued," writing:
"Self-defense can be unavoidable, but the defense of any woman, especially my wife, is not debatable. I consider my reaction subdued considering what occurred, and I hope the man in question learns a lesson and changes his disregard for women."
Asghari shared his statement on his Instagram story. He added in a second story that Wembanyama shouldn't suffer any blame due to Smith's actions. He placed accountability on the security director and those who hired him "without proper vetting."
Asghari and Spears began their romance in 2016. The couple married during an intimate ceremony in Los Angeles; however, many of Spears' family members, including dad Jamie Spears, mom Lynne Spears, sibling Jamie Lynn Spears, and her two sons weren't in attendance.
