In early August 2023, months after resigning from all his ITV shows, Phillip Schofield appeared for an interview on BBC News, confirming he and his wife, Stephanie Lowe, were still legally married.

Phillip Schofield came out as a gay man on his former show, ITV's "This Morning," and released a complete statement on social media in 2020. Despite battling with revealing his sexuality for years, his family only embraced him with love and kindness.

Schofield and Lowe married on March 30, 1993, and had two daughters, Molly and Ruby Schofield. Little is known about their love story, but despite rumors of its end, the former host has maintained that he has a beautiful marriage.

Schofield clarified that he and Lowe were separated despite legally upholding their marriage amid all that has unfolded in the last few years. Even in separation, however, he said they were still "very much together."

"I had a wonderful marriage.. have! a wonderful marriage," he declared, flashing his golden wedding ring. Schofield admitted it wasn't "brilliant" at the moment but said Lowe had remained "incredibly supportive."

Furthermore, he insisted his family unit remained solid. ''Two beautiful children who had the most wonderful time as a family, a four is who we are," he said. The revelation came months after he admitted to cheating on Lowe with a much younger former colleague.

Phillip Schofield Initially Denied Infidelity Rumors

Rumors of Schofield being romantically involved with one of his former colleagues on "This Morning" emerged in May 2023. He initially denied the speculation, which continued until he came clean later that month.

He confessed he had met his lover when he was a teen and was asked to help the young gentleman join television. Their relationship later became more than platonic. Schofield said their romance wasn't "illegal," though he admitted it was "unwise."

He then confirmed that it had ended. He deeply regretted misleading his co-workers, management agency, and ITV employers, but more than anyone, his family. "I am so very, very sorry, as I am for having been unfaithful to my wife," he said.

Schofield resigned "with immediate effect" from ITV. The identity of his former lover has been protected. Before officially coming clean about the infidelity, he had already confessed it to Lowe.

"She got off a plane, and I phoned her up and texted saying, 'I need to talk to you.' She called back, and I told her. She was very, very angry," he recalled. Although Lowe was disappointed, as were his daughters, she wished him well before his candid BBC News interview.

Phillip Schofield Sought Therapy after Coming Out

Schofield came out live on "This Morning" in February 2020 alongside his co-host and friend Holly Willoughby. He confessed he had been "coming to terms" with the fact that he was a gay man.

The former host said the revelation led to "many heartbreaking conversations" at home, but his family, including his in-laws, "smothered" him with love, kindness, and support. The affection also poured in from fans online.

"You will never know how important your support has been today," he wrote to them on his Instagram story. Three years before coming out, Schofield had defended transgender children during a segment when a guest invalidated their experiences.

Although his sexuality only came to the forefront years later, he is one of many well-known allies of the LGBTQ+ community, including "Lucifer" star Tom Ellis, Adam DeVine, Christopher Meloni, singer Khalid, and Ross Lynch.
