Miley Cyrus was highly emotional during her tribute at the memorial service for Janice Freeman. At one point, her father, Billy Ray Cyrus had to step in to assist her in performing her song.

Miley was devastated after learning the loss of Janice who was on her team on the 13th season of “The Voice.” On March 2, the 33-year-old suffered from complications of lupus and bronchial infection resulting in her death.

Two days later, Miley, who helped Janice and her family when they struggled financially, posted a heartfelt message commemorating her.

“I miss you so much it hurts,” she wrote. “Everywhere … but so did you. So often. So much pain and no one would ever notice because of the smile and joy you constantly radiated. I am trying my best today to celebrate your existence but I can’t help but just deeply mourn over your absence." She continued,

“All those texts I would receive, just of you telling me that you’re praying for ME. How you were so selfless I’ll never understand. The way you found the good in everything. You are now a rainbow. Something beautiful that comes after something so gloomy.”

During the memorial service for the late singer, Miley took the stage and held back tears as she spoke before her performance.

“Before we sing this song for Janice, I just want to clear up a rumor. I was never her coach, ever, she was always mine. I learned more from her than anyone that I’ve ever gotten the honor to be in the room with, not just vocally, I should’ve gotten more lessons than I did, but she taught me everything that I know about love.”

She then revealed her father would be joining her on stage as she finally broke down.

“I had planned on singing a song for her, but just losing her is just too much for me. So my dad’s going to take care of this for me. But, I’ll always be your sister, and I’m here for you, and I’m here for your family, and Janice I’ll miss you more than I could ever say. So, my dad is going to do this for me.”

Billy Ray began to sing the lyrics to “Amazing Grace." His daughter in a black suit stood beside him clutching a tissue until she finally found the strength to join him and sang till the end. Before leaving the stage, she said,

“Thank you for letting us be a part of your family and thank you Janice for letting me be your friend -- it’s been an honor.”

Freeman was one of the top 11 contestants before she was eliminated in “The Voice.” She remained close to Miley after her stint on the competition. The 26-year-old even covered six months of Janice’s rent just to help her get by.
