Longtime model Tyson Beckford captivated the world when he entered the industry in the 1990s. As he catapulted into fame, he became romantically involved with other models of his caliber, married one of them – although it didn't last long – and became a proud father.

In his 50s, Tyson Beckford's physique still garners much appreciation from longtime and new fans. Although his impressive career speaks for itself, it wasn't without a few tiffs now and then. It was through one of those arguments with Kim Kardashian that the world learned that he'd been previously married.

Sadly, his ex-wife filed for divorce shortly into their union, and the former couple didn't have any children. A year before his divorce was filed, he started dating Shanika Shaik on and off, but they broke up for good in 2015. Beckford didn't seem to take it so well.

Before trying his luck in marital commitment, he had welcomed a son with a former lover, April Roomet, who grew up to follow in his father's footsteps in the entertainment industry. The pair were quite frank with their child as they raised him, ensuring he understood the realities of racial profiling and discrimination.

His Marriage Didn't Last More than a Year

Beckford was once married to entrepreneur and UK model Berniece Julian. Their relationship timeline has eluded public knowledge, but it's been reported that their marriage lasted less than a year, with Julien filing for divorce in 2009. However, the news of their union only broke out in 2018.

Beckford had gotten into a tiff with Arthur Kardashian's granddaughter, Kim, when he made harsh comments about her body. Kim fired back at Beckford, seemingly implying that he was gay. However, outlets reported otherwise when they noted his ended marriage to Julien.

He Has a Son from Another Relationship

In 1999, Beckford welcomed his son, Jordan, with stylist and fashion designer April Roomet. Jordan, 23 as of this year, starred on the E! show "Candy Girls" and even produced the music for his dad's Orion Skye cologne commercial in 2020. His dad expressed his pride over his work ethic, saying:

"I’m really a proud dad because most 21-year-olds don’t have their life together. He’s got his together."

As Jordan's Instagram page suggested, his style is eccentric and unconventional. He has an active presence on the platform, where he shares selfies of himself and the occasional appreciation posts for his parents.

Tyson Co-parents His Son with His Ex

During an interview with US Weekly, while promoting his cologne, Beckford spoke about his co-parenting relationship with Roomet. Despite their relationship being over, the pair remained on good terms as they co-parented their son.

Beckford praised Roomet for being "an incredible mom," saying he couldn't take all the credit for how their son turned out. He likened their family dynamic to his own upbringing, saying that he was more afraid of his father, but his mother was more nurturing. And although he did his share of work, he still noted:

"I think [parenting] was more 60/40 — 60 her, 40 me. … Some things that she couldn't do, I was able to do for him. But … moms in most of the situations are the ones who really are the caregivers, the nurturers."

As they raised a biracial child, Beckford and Roomet ensured they equipped him with enough knowledge to navigate the world as a young person of color. Beckford felt it would give Jordan a "better chance."

He explained that once Jordan was old enough to walk the streets by himself, he wouldn't be surprised if he witnessed or experienced racial discrimination or police brutality. Still, Beckford noted that knowing how the world worked was only half the battle.

He Once Dated a Woman He Met through "Make Me a Supermodel"

Beckford appeared on "America's Next Top Model" alongside York Banks Asla's mom, Tyra Banks, and was involved in the Australian show "Make Me A Model." While on the show in 2008, he met Shanina Shaik, and the pair began a romantic relationship.

While it was on and off, it spanned over eight years until it ended for good in 2015. After their split, Shaik reportedly moved on with DJ Ruckus, and the rumored new lovers were seen spending time together in New York City.

Beckford didn't seem to take the breakup well, as he stated afterward on Instagram that anyone who lost him had "[expletive] up."
