Barack Obama, 57, and his family made headlines over the weekend after they were spotted with George Clooney and his wife, but according to PEOPLE, we all missed a previous VIP hangout.

The outlet confirmed that the Obamas met with Prince Albert II in Monaco on Friday evening before leaving for the Clooneys’ Lake Como residence.

One observer told PEOPLE:

“There was incredible security involved but they had dinner together at The Grill Friday evening.”

CELEBRITY DINING

The restaurant, according to the outlet, is an open-air establishment atop Monte Carlo’s Hotel de Paris and offers a breathtaking view of the Garnier Opera House, the casino, and a panoramic view of the harbor and Mediterranean coastline.

The Monaco royal had reportedly been in Spain earlier on Friday and flew into Monaco just for the private dinner with the Obamas. Albert and the former US president have a close relationship forged through their more-than-a-decade efforts on environmental issues.

The Friday dinner also had in attendance the former United States first lady Michelle, 55, and the couple’s daughters, Malia, 20, and Sasha, 18.

MORE FAMOUS FRIENDS

Just before hanging out with Monaco’s sovereign, the Obamas went to lunch with their longtime friends Bono and The Edge in the southeastern France community of Ezé.

After dinner with Albert, Barack, Michelle, Malia, and Sasha jetted off to Milan as guests of George and his stunning wife, Amal at their sprawling mansion, Villa Oleandra, in Laglio, Italy.

In preparation for their arrival, the governor of Laglio, Mayor Roberto Pozzi, put in place a $565 fine for anyone, vessel, or vehicle that comes within 300-ft of the Villa Oleandra.

ABOARD WITH CLOONEY

Pozzi described the Obamas’ stopover as “an exceptional promotion for our territory and a great honor,” adding that for such, “there is a price” to be paid.

On Sunday, both families were spotted taking a boat ride near George’s mansion. The actor stepped out in a light grey suit while Barack looked dashing in a similar black suit paired with a light blue shirt. Both men did not wear ties. George’s international human rights lawyer wife, Amal, as well as Michelle and Malia, were also spotted getting off the boat.

OBAMA FAMILY VACATION

The Obamas have been touring Europe for almost two weeks now, starting in the south of France only a few days after Sasha’s high school graduation from Sidwell Friends in Washington DC. The teenager is rumored to have chosen to attend the University of Michigan, unlike her Ivy Leaguer sister who is a rising junior at Harvard.

Malia and Sasha also seem to be having the time of their lives on summer vacation with their parents. So far, both girls have indulged in some sightseeing, wine tasting, hiking, and several exquisite dinners.
