Watch: Duchess Meghan Finally Meets Queen Bey at 'Lion King' Premiere
Music royalty meets British royalty! Meghan, the Duchess of Sussex, and Beyoncé were the epitome of elegance on Sunday as they hugged and chatted briefly at the London premiere of “The Lion King” in which the singer voices Nala. See the video below.
Meghan Markle has graced several premiere red carpets in her time as an actress in the US, but on Sunday, July 14, the Duchess stepped out with her husband, Prince Harry, the Duke of Sussex, for her first film premiere as a royal.
TWO POWER COUPLES MEET
The outing was highly anticipated as well, as fans of Meghan, 37, and Beyoncé, also 37, had been waiting for photos and videos of both women to emerge.
The “Crazy In Love” singer and her husband, Jay-Z, reportedly broke royal protocol by arriving at the premiere after Meghan and Harry, but in a clip from their meeting posted to Instagram by O, The Oprah Magazine, both couples appeared cordial.
SNIPPETS OF THEIR CONVERSATION
Meghan, in a black dress with sheer sleeves, hugged Queen Bey, who looked resplendent in a gold pleated gown with a thigh-high slit. The former “Suits” actress also briefly hugged Jay-Z before engaging Beyoncé in conversation.
According to the Daily Mail’s Rebecca English, Beyoncé congratulated Meghan on the recent birth of her son Archie, describing him as “so beautiful.”
“We love you guys,” Beyoncé reportedly added.
Prince Harry was also said to have asked about the music power couple’s kids while Jay-Z offered the British royals some advice:
“The best advice I can give you, always find time for yourself.”
BEY & JAY'S LOVE FOR MEGHAN GO WAY BACK
According to PEOPLE, Meghan and Harry also met with other cast members of the live-action remake of the 1994 Disney classic and got to chat with representatives from organizations working in the spheres of conservation and the environment.
Meanwhile, Beyoncé and Jay-Z had previously shown their admiration for Meghan earlier this year in their 2019 Brit Awards acceptance speech.
Alongside the speech -- posted via Instagram -- was a clip of the couple posing before a regal portrait of Meghan wearing a crown and several pearl necklaces.
“In honor of Black History Month, we bow down to one of our Melanated Monas,” Beyoncé and Jay-Z wrote at the time. “Congrats on your pregnancy! We wish you so much joy.” Meghan welcomed her son, Archie Harrison Mountbatten Windsor, in May.
